Going through the motions

Do you think about the meaning behind the things you say or do? When you meet your friend and ask them how they are doing, are you really expecting to process their response? What’s behind that tradition you’re practicing? Does it make sense any more or are you just doing it because you were told/shown how to do so.

What does a holiday you might be celebrating mean to you? More and more, it seems the meaning behind things are lost or no longer relevant. It’s just another day and often it’s associated with some commercial practice and an obligation that must be fulfilled. On Thanksgiving, do you really reflect on your life and count your blessings and truly take time to be thankful for what you have? Or is it just the fourth Thursday in November again and (for the vast majority) has provided you with a day (or two) off to gorge on “traditional” thanksgiving food which will lead to buying sale items the next day so you can save money.
